Riley has finally learned to roll from her back to her tummy! Thank you, God. This means she is napping a lot better. Once she's done babbling, she just rolls herself back to her tummy and takes her rest. That sure beats going in and out of her room to roll her back over so she'll fall asleep. We've had several good days in a row of sleeping later and napping at somewhat of the same time. Oh how that helps my sanity and outlook on life! I am so grateful and am reminded (I'm sure not for the last time) how quickly we move in and out of these tough spots.
Colter has decided he wants to sky dive. Seriously, I hope not, but this is a common position for him. He repeatedly picks up his head, arms, and legs and looks around to see who is going to cheer for him. He especially seems interested in impressing Governor. Sometimes I think Colter really wants to fly from one spot on the blanket to another.
Both babies are making progress across the blanket in some fashion. Riley is usually rolling, Colter must be scooting (I'm not really sure how he moves from one spot to another). Both of them are sitting for short periods of time using their arms to prop themselves up. They love to be tickled and love any kind of music (even Jeff and I singing "Splish splash I was taking a bath" at bath time. Riley likes to dance around the room to Glen Miller. Both of them light up when they make their exersaucer bugs play music.
(I wasn't quick enough to catch Riley sitting. Colter wasn't too pleased when she toppled onto him!)
Colter is very interested in what we're eating and made a grab for my sandwich the other day. We've been reading books more often. They do well when we're all lying on our bellies so they can look at the pictures and wiggle around if they want.
The sun shade I ordered from Target also arrived today. As many of you know (Suzanna, Jeff's family), I'm really careful about shading the babies when we're out walking. This is a tad difficult with the tiny little shades that come on the strollers, so a lot of times we just avoid walking during the middle of the day. Or I spend the walk constantly adjusting the shades or pulling the stroller instead of pushing it so they're not facing into the sun. (I wasn't kidding about being careful). Not any more. The Ray Shade is awesome! I can't wait to try it out. My children will probably grow up wanting a good tan, but as long as it's up to me we'll be protecting their skin as much as possible (while still having a blast outside). Must be the oncology nurse in me.
OK, so Riley got a lot more than Colter. Jeff says Colter needs to get used to it now. There are just so many cute girls clothes out there! We got everything washed and had a good laugh while we were hanging up their new outfits. I didn't think about the fact that Riley doesn't have much of a neck when I got her a cute little turtle neck. Jeff did a good impression of how he thinks it's going to look. Poor sweetie. Good thing we think she's gorgeous.
We got home this afternoon. What a great week! Jeff and I are pretty much exhausted because Riley had a very hard time sleeping (gas, overstimulated, teething, who knows!). Plus, we are learning that vacationing with kids is nowhere near as relaxing as vacationing as a couple. It was worth it, though, because Riley and Colter really got to bond with everyone. I was a little worried that Colter would be overwhelmed because he had been in a bit of a mommy phase, but he was as social and outgoing as Riley.
The bumbos were awesome to have at the lake. We could pull Riley and Colter right up to the table to hang out with us. Of course they're a tad bit lower...
Jeff and I got to go running together several times during the week thanks to some very sweet family members who were happy to hang out with Riley and Colter in the morning. While the hills were painful, I loved it! It's so much more fun to run together. Jennifer and I also took the babies on a couple very hilly walks. It was a major workout just pushing the double stroller up the driveway.
