Today was a great day!

I don't have any pictures from today, but wanted to post anyway.
We finally made it back to Sunday School!! What a great feeling. Too bad we are in the middle of Daniel and Jeff and I had no idea what was going on.
Of course this meant that Riley and Colter went to the church nursery for the first time. We dropped them off in time to go to the early service and then went to Sunday school. I was nervous that they wouldn't nap and our whole day would fall apart. Well, we had our own little miracle because they both napped, we made it home before they decided they were starving, and our day went well. We even went to a party this afternoon. I think they love being out in the evenings because they are constantly held and have plenty of people to "talk" to.

Riley's in on the rolling

Riley couldn't let her brother have all the fun, so she decided it was time to show off her own rolling skills. We actually caught it on video. Check it out!

Gram came over to play with the twins this afternoon. She comes over at least twice a week to take care of them. I know Riley and Colter love to see her and I REALLY appreciate having a break to look forward to. This is the first week I've actually left the house instead of just taking a nap.

I didn't do anything too exciting. Wait, that's not true. I returned the breast pump we rented from the hospital - finally! I had it for almost three months and relied heavily on it for nine weeks. Our "team" wouldn't have made it if I hadn't been able to pump. I was so thankful to be able to return it, though.

This was the typical set up for the past months.

We have put the bottles away for the most part (except when I want to leave the house for an extended period of time) and are finally at the point where nursing the twins is going well. I am able to nurse them together with a special pillow designed for twins. Oh, the time we have gained! Thank you to all the friends and family who supported us, cheered me on, and let me know it was OK if the nursing thing didn't work out. While I was at the hospital returning the pump, I ran into the nurse who worked with me during two outpatient lactation consultations. I was so glad to be able to give her the update.

Sleeping and rolling

This is a beautiful sight!! I took this picture at 8:30am and actually had to wake the babies up to get the day going. They had a great night! They went to bed at 10:15 and didn't eat again until 5:00am. Riley didn't even need to spend any time in bed with me to get to 5:00am. Plus, I got to get up, brush my teeth, and eat breakfast before waking Riley and Colter up. That felt amazing. What good little sleepers.

Colter also rolled over for the first time today. Jeff was taking care of them while I went to the gym. He had them in the pack-n-play for their nap. When he heard a squeak from Colter, he looked up - Colter had rolled over onto his back and was lying on Riley's legs. I think Colter was probably as surprised as Jeff. Wow, they are learning so many new things.

Too big for the bassinet

Today we finally took the bassinet off the pack-n-play. With their combined weights, they had been over the weight limit for a while. Plus, whenever we tried to put them both in there, they would kind of roll to the center and bump into each other. Funny, but not very safe or restful.
They seemed to like graduating to the big baby version.

Riley and Colter want to say "Happy Birthday" to Grandma. They can't wait to tell her in person at the end of the month when we go to Raleigh.

More firsts!

We really got out of the house today. We took Riley and Colter to see Dan (the son of our friend Chris) get baptised. Here he is holding Riley.

Their church did a special service to baptise almost 30 people. They played a video testimony prior to each baptism. It was really amazing to hear some of those stories. We're so happy for Dan. I had a new appreciation for how wonderful parents must feel when their children accept Jesus. No decision is more important. I pray every day that Riley and Colter will come to know and love the Lord.

After the baptisms, we went straight to Uncle Greg, Aunt Laurie, David, and Rachel's house for Rachel's 18th birthday party.

I can't believe she's 18 already! It was great to see family again and the twins enjoyed their first birthday party.

First real outing

Today we went on our first real outing (besides trips to the doctor and lactation consultants). We went to the mall to see if we could find a couple new pieces of clothing for me. While nursing is great for losing the baby weight, I have very few shirts that fit. Dad went too, of course, as the resident fashion consultant. We didn't have much time before the next feeding, but we were able to find a couple shirts and a skirt.

First Baths

Don't turn us in to the authorities, but the twins finally had a real bath today. I promise they weren't smelling or anything. Does it count that technically they aren't even supposed to be born yet?

They both seemed to enjoy their baths, so we had a lot of fun. Exhausting, but fun. I suppose that's the name of the game for a while!

First visit to the doctor

We went to see our pediatrician today. Riley was looking a little yellow, so he wanted to take a look at her and check to see how much both of the twins weighed.

It turns out we don't have to worry about Riley being jaundiced. However, since our doctor isn't impressed with their weight gain (Riley = 5lb 1oz, Colter = 5lb 1.6oz), we'll be feeding them mostly high calorie formula for now and freezing any breast milk I pump.
